Time to be in Mozam

 

Vilanculos is known to be sun drenched with clear skies, calm sea conditions and summery temperatures all-year round. However like most coastal areas, the high humidity and light showers can be expected. When people ask us what is the best time of year to visit we say it all depends on what your preferences are. 

November through to February, the heat soars at a high of 30˚C and the nights are cooler. What we love about this period, is that the baking heat can be balanced with a few rainy days of relaxing and recovering from those longer sunny days. These dry temperatures are prone to more mosquitos and Malaria can be a bigger concern so make sure to use lots of mosquito repellent. 

November to April, is the turtle nesting season where you are more likely to see turtles floating in the ocean or laying eggs on land. 

If you'd prefer to be comfortably basking in the sun all day long with G&T in hand, June to September is for you. These months are still very warm but more mild with a gentle ocean breeze. There are often less mosquitos around during this time. 

In addition to this May to Sept, is the best time of year for scuba diving as most marine life migrates and there is better visibility. July to October is the most popular time to be in Vilanculos due to the mass migration of Hump Back whales and their calves. 

The best months for Kitesurfing in Vilanculos fall within September to December with an average of 18-30 knot winds. So bear this in mind, if you are wanting to experience the amazing Kitesurfing Vilanculos has to offer. 

All in all, Vilanculos has the most remarkable weather with only slight differences in temperature and wind. So, whenever it is that you decide to visit you will never be disappointed but certain months may be more preferable to your liking.
